Deadsy signed to Sire Records, recruiting Jay Gordon of the band Orgy, to play bass their eponymous debut album. After the album was recorded and released to the press Gordon was replaced by Craig Riker joined on bass as a full time member, and they were once again writing songs for the upcoming full length Commencement.

Deadsy are a band shrouded in some mystery - what with 2 albums released (this one and Commencement which also share some of the same tracks) and then deleted by the record company. And after listening to this, the self titled debut, it appears to make little sense as to why, because the music is so good/5(6).

Deadsy's use of catchy hooks and delicate use of synths hit all the right places, never sounding over the top and the careful construction of this track is evident. 9/10 4) 'Paint it Black' is the obligatory Deadsy cover song. I'm not usually a fan of cover songs on studio albums but with Deadsy you can forgive them because they do them so well/5(31).

The first track "Razor Love" is almost as addicting as "The Key to Gramercy Park" (still my favorite Deadsy song along with "Flowing Glower"). Both opening tracks hooked me right away. "Razor Love" is more accessible than "Gramercy" and I agree with some of the other reviewers that, as a whole, Phantasmagore is more accessible than Commencement /5(31).

Deadsy is the debut studio album by American rock band Deadsy. It was scheduled for release on February 25, by Sire Records. Several promotional compact discs and compact cassettes of the album, as well as a CD-single for "The Elements", were sent out to members of the press and radio stations, but the release was pulled less than a month before its release date by distributor Elektra Entertainment Group.
